Microsoft and Pearson VUE are giving you the opportunity to take a “Second Shot” at a Microsoft Learning IT Pro or Developer exam — FREE! Simply take the exam at any Pearson VUE® Authorized Center between February 28, 2005 and August 31, 2005, and if you “sub-optimize” it for any reason, take it again for free by September 30, 2005.
To qualify for the free Second Shot exam, you must first register for this offer with Microsoft. Upon registration, you will be provided with a promotional code that you must use when registering for your original exam through the Pearson VUE Web site, call center or test center. Make sure to have the promo code available prior to registering. In the event that you fail the exam, you must contact the Pearson VUE call center to schedule your Second Shot exam. Tell the call center agent you are taking part in the “Second Shot” promotion. Please wait one day after the failed exam to allow your test results to be entered into the system. Then, take your Second Shot!
This offer is limited to one (1) free retake for every failed paid exam (you must retake the same exam). See registration site for complete offer details.

Do I have to register for this offer before I take my initial exam?
Yes, you must register for this promotion with Microsoft before you take your initial exam. Once you register, you will be provided with a special promotional code. Provide this code when registering with Pearson VUE for your initial exam. It is your responsibility to provide this promotional code to Pearson VUE.
How can I register for the initial exam?
You may register for the initial exam via the Pearson VUE Web site, call center or test centers. Please be sure to reference your promotional code when registering for your initial exam so that you will be able to re-take the exam for free if you do not pass it the first time.
How do I get my free exam retake?
Simply call the exam registration at 1-800-TEST-REG/1-800-837-8734 to schedule your free retake. You should wait at least one business day (after failing an exam) before calling to schedule your free retake. The call center representative will validate your eligibility to get a free retake. When calling, please identify that you are taking part in the "Second Shot" campaign and also have your Second Shot promotional code ready.
Is this call toll-free?
The call is toll-free in some countries. Other countries will require a toll. For the list of Pearson VUE call center contact numbers, please go to www.PearsonVUE.com/contact/ms.
What if I call and the call center does not have the promotion code entered as part of the initial exam registration call record?
Again, you must first register for this offer with Microsoft before you register for your initial exam. After you receive the promotional code, you can then reference that number when registering for your initial exam. Other Second Shot requirements apply — must have taken and paid for the initial exam within the offer dates.
Do I have to call the Pearson VUE call center for my initial exam attempt, too?
No, only the free exam retake must be registered through the call center. For all other exam registrations, you may choose to register via the Web, at your testing site or via the call center.
Do I have to take the Second Shot exam through the same exam delivery partner I took my initial exam?
Yes, you must call Pearson VUE to obtain your second shot test.
How many free exams can I receive?
If you register for the Second Shot eligibility, you are entitled to retake any exam that you paid for and failed during the eligibility period (February 28, 2005 - August 31, 2005).
What is the time frame that I must take my first exam and the retake of that same exam?
You must take the first exam between February 28, 2005 and August 31, 2005 and if you fail it, you may retake the same exam at no additional cost before September 30, 2005.
If I failed an exam prior to February 28, 2005, can I retake it for free prior to August 31, 2005?
No. However, if you register for the Second Shot promotion and you fail the exam again between February 28, 2005 and August 31, 2005, you are eligible for the free exam retake offer.
If I fail an exam, can I retake it any time?
All retake timeframes are subject to compliance with Microsoft Certification Exam Retake rules, which state:
If you do not pass an exam the first time, you may retake it at any time. If you do not achieve a passing score a second time, you must wait at least 14 days to retake the exam a third time. A 14-day waiting period will be imposed for all subsequent exam retakes. If you have passed an exam, you cannot take it again. Beta exams may be taken only once.
Once again, if you want to take advantage of this free retake offer, you must retake the exam before September 30, 2005.
How can I learn more about what content is covered on Microsoft certification exams?
